Sleeveless Blazer - Part 2

D.I.Y it!

As I mentioned in the previous post, it was proving difficult trying to locate a long sleeveless blazer in Bahrain and rather than going through the time-consuming headache of  purchasing online I decided to make one myself.

I luckily stumbled on this blazer from the H&M sale at a ridiculous price of only 5 dinar!! It was the perfect length and fit to help recreate the sleeveless look. All I did was simply cut off the sleeves and stitch around the shoulder opening.

The result speaks for itself......

The sleeveless blazer is such a versatile item that it enables you to create many different looks. I was so excited to play around with it and come up with various styles.

Here are some of them.....

Sleeveless Blazer - Part 1

How to wear it

I have been meaning to publish this post since last autumn but have completely forgotten about it. Now that the weather has improved and we've moved into a new season, an update is needed for this post and for this reason I have split it into 3 parts to cater for the extra info.

Back in September 2011 I was craving over the sleeveless blazer and had been searching all over Bahrain for the right one but alas with no prevail.....until.... I came up with the idea to just DIY it! I found the perfect blazer from H&M and with a pair of scissors in my hand (and good stitching skills), the sleeveless blazer was created. But this will all be discussed in Part 2 of this post.

Adding a sleeveless blazer to your outfit is a trendy twist to the formal suit jacket. It gives an edgy vibe to a smart, sophisticated silhouette and is also a great aid for creating the latest craze of layering.

Choose the longer styles because they generally work best with any outfit weather it be skinny pants, shorts, skirts or dresses.

To carry the trend over from A/W to S/S simply opt for lighter shades, colours and fabrics. This is one item of clothing you can't go wrong with.

Photography

I am so excited to be starting Photography classes tomorrow. I have been playing around with my Nikon D90 and reading up on the User Manual to try and work out how to use the settings but I think I need professional guidance to get a better understanding. Below are some photos that I took of my kids while practicing. Some of them I used Photoshop to change up exposure, brightness, contrast, etc.

What do you think......?

Qatari Delights

Took a trip to Qatar for a few days and absolutely fell in love with the place - apart from the traffic!! Wish I had taken more photos of the street style fashion though, but by the time I'd get my phone out to snap a photo they'd be gone! People are not afraid to experiment and clearly wear what represents their personalities. There were sheer skirts, assymetrical shirts, floral-print leggings and so much more. I love their uniquness and originality. A very fashion-forward bunch! Hope to see more of it here in Bahrain. Maybe I need to start scouring the streets again and hunt down some Bahrain style setters.

Here are some highlights from my trip....

Boarding my flight with Qatar Airways - not the 5 star airline it claims to be!

Dining at the popular Souq Waqif

Spotted these super comfy and affordable Nine West ankle-strap heels that are so in trend right now. I want the beige ones!!

Get a taste of the Big Apple here at Villagio - superb sandwiches. Yummy.

Ankle-strap Shoes

Ever since Isabel Marant took over the feet of fashionistas and celebrities worldwide with her ankle leather strapped Gava and Gwen heels, it seems the world of shoe fetishes followed in her 'footsteps' and the ankle strap was re-born.

While the style of this shoe is classic, the leather cuff gives it a modern edge that creates a sassy look. This re-invented version of the original ankle-strap shoe focuses on the strap as the actual feature which can instantly style an outfit. Many fashion experts are cleverly wearing wrist cuffs or bracelets around their ankles for that same creative effect.

As a general rule of thumb, ankle straps will cut off your leg. Choose a pair with a wide strap or one that comes quite high up the leg to give the impression of leaner, longer legs. Thinner straps tend to be more flattering and have a sleaker finish. They work perfectly with pencil skirts or cropped skinny trousers.
